The Main Point of Maintainance about RV Reducer

The use of any device requires inspection and maintenance. When the technical condition of a device is poor or a malfunction occurs, necessary checks and maintenance should be carried out to restore its functionality. The basic content of equipment repair includes equipment maintenance, equipment inspection, and equipment repair. Different lubricants should not be mixed. The positions of the oil level plug, drain plug, and breather are determined by the installation position.

1) Oil level check

1. Disconnect the power to prevent electric shock! Wait for the gearbox to cool down!

2. Remove the oil level plug and check if the oil is full.

3. Install the oil level plug.

2) Oil check

1. Disconnect the power to prevent electric shock! Wait for the gearbox to cool down!

2. Open the drain plug and take a sample of the oil.

3. Check the viscosity index of the oil: if the oil is visibly cloudy, it is recommended to replace it as soon as possible.

3) For gearboxes with oil level plugs

1. Check the oil level to see if it is within the acceptable range.

2. Install the oil level plug.

4) Oil replacement

1. After cooling, the viscosity of the oil increases, making it difficult to drain. The gearbox should have the oil changed at operating temperature.

2. Disconnect the power to prevent electric shock! Wait for the gearbox to cool down and ensure there is no risk of combustion!

3. Note: The gearbox should still be warm during the oil change.

4. Place an oil collecting pan under the drain plug.

5. Open the oil level plug, breather, and drain plug.

6. Drain all the oil.

7. Install the drain plug.

8. Pour in new oil of the same brand.

9. The oil level should match the installation position.

10. Check the oil level at the oil level plug.

11. Tighten the oil level plug and breather.

5) Notes on Checking and Maintaining Gear Reducers

The gear reducer should be securely installed on a stable and level base or foundation. The oil in the drain groove should be able to be discharged, and the cooling air should circulate smoothly. If the foundation is unreliable, it can cause vibration and noise during operation and damage the bearings and gears. If protrusions are present on the transmission coupling or if gear or chain drives are used, protective devices should be considered. When the output shaft bears a large radial load, a reinforced type should be selected.

Ensure that the staff can easily access the oil level mark, vent plug, and drain plug with the designated installation device. After installation, the accuracy of the installation position and the reliability of all fasteners should be checked in order. The reducer should rotate flexibly after installation. The gear reducer uses splash lubrication in an oil pool, and the user needs to remove the screw plug of the vent hole and replace it with a vent plug before operation. Depending on the installation position, open the oil level plug and check the oil level height. Add oil from the oil level plug until the lubricating oil overflows from the oil level plug hole.

After tightening the oil level plug to ensure no errors, the gear reducer can undergo a no-load trial run for at least 2 hours. During operation, there should be no impact, vibration, noise, or oil leakage. Any abnormalities should be promptly resolved. After a certain period, the oil level should be checked again to prevent possible leaks from the casing. If the environmental temperature is too high or too low, the brand of the lubricating oil can be changed.

When installing the planetary gear reducer, pay attention to aligning the center axis of the transmission. The error should not exceed the compensation amount of the used coupling. Good alignment can extend the service life and achieve the desired transmission efficiency.

Do not use a hammer to install transmission components on the output shaft. Typically, assembly fixtures and the internal thread of the shaft end are used to press the transmission components with bolts. Otherwise, internal parts of the gear reducer may be damaged. It is best not to use a steel fixed coupling because improper installation of this type of coupling can cause unnecessary external loads, resulting in early bearing damage and even output shaft fracture.
